Coaching notes for this course

Three starts, one crowdRunners start in Greenwich Park and Blackheath, and the three streams meet near Woolwich just before mile 3. Expect a crowded first few kilometres, so settle in rather than chase your goal pace. Your last long runs rehearse a controlled start.
A route that buildsYou loop past the Cutty Sark around miles 6 to 7, cross Tower Bridge, then head out towards Canary Wharf around mile 19 before turning back along the Embankment. The last stretch is the turn at Buckingham Palace and up The Mall. The plan saves your best marathon-pace work for the second half.
Two days, same courseIn 2027 the race runs on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April, with the same course both days. The organisers allocate each runner a day, and that has not been announced yet. This plan is the same for either day, so you can start training now.

The 2027 ballot closed on 1 May 2026 and most charity places have been allocated. Some charities may still have places, so check with them directly. The organiser’s page has the latest, including the 2028 ballot.

London Marathon questions

When should I start training for the London Marathon?

Most runners need 16–22 weeks. Counting back from Saturday 24 April 2027, an 18-week plan starts on Monday 21 December 2026 and a 22-week plan on Monday 23 November. Start later and Kyrvo shortens the base phase.

Is the 2027 London Marathon really over two days?

Yes. For 2027 it is a one-off two-day event on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April, with about 100,000 runners and the same Greenwich-to-The-Mall course on both days.

Which day will I run?

The organisers allocate days and had not announced how when we last checked. Your Kyrvo plan builds to the same peak and taper whichever day you get, and you can tell us once you know.

Can I still get a place?

The 2027 public ballot closed on 1 May 2026 and most charity applications have closed. Some charities may still have places, and the next ballot is for 2028. Entry details change, so check the organiser’s page for the latest.

How hilly is the London Marathon?

It is broadly flat, with the usual bridges and underpasses rather than real hills. Pacing and the crowded early miles matter more than elevation.

Where does the London Marathon start and finish?

It starts in Greenwich Park and Blackheath and finishes on The Mall, in front of Buckingham Palace.

Do I need to sign up to see the plan?

No. Answer three questions to see your full plan. Create a free account only if you want to save it and have it adapt.

Is Kyrvo really free?

Yes. Kyrvo is free to use. Any race or kit links that earn us a fee are clearly labelled, and we never sell your data.
